May 2014 the 6th International Congress of Nematology was held in Cape Town, South Africa. We joined this conference and presented a poster on standardization of qPCR tests for the detection of nematode species.
The 2013 symposium on Pine Wilt Disease was held in Braunschweig (Germany) from 15 - 18 October 2013. It bundled the actual research progress and the management of the pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) and its vector beetles and enhanced scientific exchange. ClearDetections participated and introduced a new qPCR assay for B. xylophilus detection in DNA extracts made from nematode suspensions. Symposium details can be found on the PWD website
The Herman Wijffels innovation award is a prize for innovative inventions that encourage sustainability, sponsored by the Dutch co-operative bank Rabobank. ClearDetections is extremely happy and proud that on the 14th of November 2012, out of 577 submissions, they were awarded the third prize in this prestigious competition. According to the expert jury ClearDetections developed an accessible test that will help farmers worldwide to get the most out of their soil.
The European Society of Nematologists held its 31th International Symposium in Adana, Turkey from September 23rd - 27th 2012. Many interesting papers were presented, i.o. ‘Looking for a needle in a hay-stack: diagnostic kits for the detection of plant parasitic nematodes in complex DNA backgrounds’ and ‘Insight in phylogenetic relationships among nematodes based on a phylum-wide molecular framework of ~ 2,500 full-length small subunit ribosomal DNA sequences’.
It was a great honour to be invited to the Rabobank Farmers Masterclass (9 - 15 June 2012) and to present ClearDetections' innovations in nematode detection to a room full of very enthousiast farmers. It was very inspiring to talk to growers who experience the troubles with plant diseases on a regular basis
